October in Cuba: WFPSC participates in international political education school
CUBA
Overview
Through our decades-long partnership with the Martin Luther King Memorial Center in Havana, WFPSC organizes full-time delegations of educational exchange activities.
The U.S. government has upheld a failed and inhumane policy toward Cuba for over sixty years. The economic and financial blockade along with a media smear campaign has denied the people of Cuba the opportunity to realize the full potential of a society organized around peoples’ needs while denying the people of the United States the chance to learn from our island neighbors’ success and challenges and to build people-to-peoples relationships.
WFPSC delegations break this isolation & misinformation by allowing delegates to learn about the Cuban process first-hand. Delegation themes range from arts and culture, education and law to sustainable agriculture and health care. Every delegation explores the economic and social effect of U.S. policy towards the island and activates delegates to help turn a new page in U.S-Cuba relations.
Meet The Cuba Team
For over six decades, the U.S. government has upheld a failed and inhumane policy toward Cuba - which U.S. lawmakers refer to as an embargo, but is called a blockade in Cuba & by those working in solidarity with Cuba because these policies go beyond the scope of an embargo. WFPSC’s partnerships with the Cuban people have taught us that the U.S. blockade and travel ban toward Cuba is:
-
An Unnecessary Policy. Cuba is not and never has been, a threat to the international community. The blockade against Cuba only hurts people in Cuba and the U.S.
-
An Unpopular Policy. Public opinion polls indicate that the overwhelming majority of Americans disagree with the blockade and the United Nations has consistently condemned the U.S. embargo.
-
An Immoral Policy. The blockade causes people to suffer in both countries. In Cuba, millions of people are denied access to basic necessities – and U.S. citizens are denied access to cutting-edge medicines produced in Cuba and the right to freely exchange with our close neighbors. The blockade is considered immoral and unethical by most countries, religious leaders, and people of conscience around the world.
-
An Unconstitutional Policy. The embargo prohibits U.S. citizens the legal right to travel to Cuba – a ban most scholars consider unconstitutional.
